The content on this website, implemented with our web technology, should be usable on all widely-used recommended browsers and be accessible to all users regardless of their ability.
This website uses an Accessibility Toolbar, powered by Recite Me, which can be easily activated by all users via any page on the website.
This website also contains downloadable documents which can be opened using Adobe Acrobat. Adobe pdfs can be made larger or smaller to suit the reader and version 7.0 (and above) has an audio facility so that the document can be 'read' to the user. If other formats are required, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.
Please note: certain combinations of fonts, typefaces and background colours can sometimes make text more difficult to read.
Changing the appearance of the screen
You can alter the accessibility of these pages by changing the on-screen appearance of the text and background on most recommended browsers. Below are some suggestions. Please note that all are reversible and do not affect images.
Microsoft Internet Explorer
To apply the font and colour changes listed below:
- On the View/Tools menu, select Internet Options
- On the General tab, select Accessibility
- Make sure that each of the three formatting instruction boxes are ticked.
Changing the font
Using a sans serif font (such as Arial), rather than a serif font (such as Times New Roman) can make text easier to read.
- On the View or Tools menu, select Internet Options
- On the General tab, select Fonts in the Proportional and Fixed-width font lists
- Select the fonts you would like to use.
Displaying text larger or smaller
You can increase or decrease text size using the text size option in the View menu. Certain combinations of fonts, typefaces and background colours can sometimes make text more difficult to read.
You can change these settings by choosing your own colour scheme. Black text on a yellow background gives the greatest degree of contrast.
- On the View/Tools menu, select Internet Options
- On the General tab, select Colours
- Select the tick box labelled Use Windows Colours
- Select Text, and the colour you want, then Select OK
- Select Background, and the colour you want, then Select OK.
To remove images
- On the View or Tools menu, select Internet Options
- On the Advanced tab, scroll down to Multimedia
- Select Show Pictures to remove the tick
- Select Apply, and then select OK.
To change the size of the window
- Select Full Screen on the toolbar.

To change text and background colour

- Select Font and Colours in the General section
- Select your preferred text style options
- Select your preferred colour options from the Text and Background box
- Deselect Use System Colours

To set these colours as your browser default, click on Always use my Fonts and Colours.
To remove images
- Click on Tools and then Options
- Select Web Features

- Click on OK.
If you have any problems changing your browser settings, use the Help menu in your browser toolbar.
